Encyclopædia Britannica profiles
For millennia women have left their mark on the world, at times changing the course of history and at other times influencing small but significant spheres of life. Only in the past century, however, have concerted efforts been made to mention women's contributions in history books. Moreover, changes in status for many women in modern times—the right to own property, to vote, and to choose their own careers—may obscure the accomplishments made by women of earlier eras. Noms i els treballs fets per algunes científiques al llarg de la història
El sistema educatiu ha negligit la difusió de l'existència de dones en tots els camps de l'activitat social i molt especialment en els camps que han estat definits com exclusivament masculins. És el cas, per exemple, de la producció científica. Els llibres d'història de la ciència, les obres de divulgació, i en general la bibliografia especialitzada, no inclouen l'estudi de la contribució que moltes dones hen fet a la ciència. La nostra intenció és donar eines al professorat i a l'alumnat per poder modificar aquesta visió esbiaixada del passat.
A l'escola, noies i nois no només aprenen coneixements, desenvolupen la seva personalitat i construeixen els seus projectes i expectatives de futur. Creiem que conèixer el valor i l'extensió de la creativitat femenina ajuda les noies a construir una imatge d'elles mateixes allunyada dels estereotips encara dominants que les volen passives i submisses. Esperem que Un estrany binomi: dones i científiques sigui útil de cara a criticar i transformar aquests estereotips.

La dona espanyola a l'arribada de la República
Carme Cases explica que l’arribada de la República va significar per a la dona espanyola “descobrir que tenia un lloc a la societat i el mateix dret a la llibertat que l’home, per això quan la dona va veure la República atacada va passar a l’acció i va col·laborar en tot el que podia per defensar-la”.
Però l’exposició no presenta només el punt de vista de la dona republicana, també té en compte el paper que va tenir la dona al bàndol franquista, a través d’una organització de Falange Espanyola anomenada Secció Femenina , creada el 1934 per fomentar l'esperit i l'adhesió al Moviment Nacional. Des de la Secció Femenina es va fer una tasca de mobilització de la dona a la zona franquista mitjançant un ideari que reivindicava els valors tradicionals i de la figura de la dona com a mare i esposa al servei de l’home.

Solo a partir de los años sesenta, con la consolidación del movimiento feminista y la lucha por los derechos de la mujer, se empiezan a realizar estudios que van sacando de las sombras a artistas de todos los tiempos, algunas de las cuales habían gozado de gran éxito en su época y demostrando la extraordinaria calidad de los trabajos de muchas de ellas cuyas obras eran a veces atribuidas a sus padres o maestros también artistas y, claro está, varones.
Como muestra de estas reivindicaciones, cabe señalar la realizada en 1989 en Nueva York por el grupo de activistas feministas Guerrilla Girls con carteles donde se leía: ¿Tienen que estar desnudas las mujeres para entrar en el Metropolitan Museum? Menos del 5% de los artistas de la Sección de Arte Moderno son mujeres, pero el 85% de los desnudos son femeninos.

La primera mujer de la que se tiene noticia que pudo realizar en España el examen de Enseñanza Secundaria, nos llega a través de una Orden de la Dirección General de Instrucción pública dirigida al Instituto de Segunda Enseñanza de Huelva. En este centro aspiraba a examinarse Antonia Arribas, una estudiante que había cursado previamente la solicitud de examen y a la que se le repondió afirmativamente con fecha 25 de mayo de 1871.

Y era como que no había ningún tipo de diferencia ni ningún tipo de distanciamiento. Por eso es que nos sentíamos bien. Por eso es que la Plaza agrupó. Por eso es que la Plaza consolidó.

Mujeres de Negro es una red internacional flexible y descentralizada de mujeres que comparten una filosofía común contra el militarismo y la violencia y que utilizan un estilo similar de manifestaciones silenciosas. The Committee worked out the methodology and mechanisms of human rights protection in the situation of legal vacuum in the military sphere.
The Committee effectively defended the soldiers who refused to participate in Chechen war by conscious motives.
The Committee organized and supported the soldiers mothers who took their sons from Chechnya to stop the war.
The Committee protected the human rights of Chechen people and of soldiers — it acts on both sides of "the front-line".

The Nobel Prize in the sciences is universally considered one of the most prestigious distinctions for significant contributions to scientific knowledge and development. It has been awarded since 1901, in Physics and Chemistry, by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and, in Physiology or Medicine, by the Medical Nobel Assembly.
Ten women, from a total of 448 scientists, have been awarded a Nobel Prize in the sciences (chemistry, physics and physiology or medicine), from 1901 to July 2003. Among them, Marie Curie is the only person ever to have twice received a Nobel Prize in the sciences, each time in a different field of specialization: in Physics, in 1903, and in Chemistry, in 1911.

The National Inventors Hall of Fame (NIHF) was founded in 1973 to honor inventors and to bring public recognition to their contributions.
To be eligible for consideration, the nominee must hold at least one U.S. patent but does not have to be an American national.
Six women, from a total of 168 inventors, have been inducted to the National Inventors Hall of Fame, from 1973 to 2001.

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)
A large number of women inventors have received world recognition through various international awards. Some of the most prestigious of these awards, and of widest geographical scope, are the Nobel Prize, induction to the National Inventors Hall of Fame (U.S.A.) and the WIPO Gold Medal for Inventors.

A quick survey of the history of engineering and technology might lead one to believe that technology is the dominion of men. After all, there are few women technologists or scientists whose names resonate like those of men such as Faraday or Edison. This is largely because, historically, women have had limited access to education, especially in fields such as science and engineering. For example, women were excluded from engineering schools, and although many men of the era didn't go to engineering school either, women didn't have the other route of learning the profession—on-the-job training. In addition to the lack of access to schools and workplaces, women were generally assumed to have no mechanical abilities or even interest in technical fields.

They were described by Lise de Baissac as "ordinary women".
This web site, created in 1995, tells the story of an extraordinary group of women who worked for the Special Operations Executive (S.O.E.) during World War Two. It does not intend to glamorise or hero worship the women - the work was far from glamorous - but to simply show the intricate work they did, the extraordinary courage they showed and the sacrifices they made.
During the course of the war, SOE F Section (France) alone, put 39 female agents in to the field, of these 13 did not return. Years later they were described by Lise de Baissac, now Madame Villameur, as "ordinary women".
These ordinary women were also mothers. wives, daughters, sisters, sweethearts and amongst their ranks were a professional dancer, a Parisian fashion designer and a Princess.
