Money&Movements
Is there really too little money to support existing women's rights initiatives? Is it that women's rights groups are not bold enough in their fundraising strategies? Is it that donors simply don't understand the urgency and importance of this work? Or is it that we, as progressive women's organizations and movements, need to change ourselves to respond better to the current challenges???

EU project to examine relationship between gender and scientific practices
Central European Centre for Women and Youth in Science
An EU funded project is to compare the development of scientific communities, practices and cultures in Europe from a gender and East-West perspective. Over the past 25 years feminist knowledge theorists, and philosophers of science have been at odds with those engaged in social studies of science. They argue that these studies have focused on a narrowly defined set of scientific methods and have overlooked the context of discovery and the phase where research questions are formulated. The KNOWING comparative study will examine scientific institutions specialising in sociology and biology in Austria, the Czech Republic, Finland, Slovakia, and the United Kingdom. The study will also seek to identify structural and institutionalised practices and procedures that may hinder or promote the participation of women and young people in science. The aim is to provide recommendations for better practices, accountability and transparency and gender mainstreaming in research and development that will contribute to ongoing educational reforms in several of the countries involved in the study. Finally, the project consortium hopes that its results will have an impact on EU and national policy in order to promote gender equality and contribute to public debate on the accountability of research and researchers.

Women Working: Thinking, Creating, and Making Science
The Feminist Press
Girls do not have equal access to science instruction.
Stereotypes continue to inform instructors and discourage female students.
By the end of their high school years the numbers of girls in science courses drop significantly.
By the time they go to college, many young women lose confidence in themselves and, especially, in their ability to do math and science.
Images of women in science—both in life and in curricular materials—continue to be needed.
The Feminist Press and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York will conduct an exploratory project to identify issues and factors affecting women’s access to science. The findings and issues will be embedded in a series of popular books and other media that speak directly to girls and young women, providing effective models through images and stories about women’s work in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)

Evaluating Programs For Women: A Gender-specific Framework
Research Projects
Women-centred Health Programs and Services
Social structures and processes affect health and the quality of life. A key social factor influencing health is gender. At all levels of society, awareness is expanding about the intimate
links between gender and health. Genderspecific health programming is emerging as a significant focus across Canada and internationally, stemming from a growing awareness of the need for effective, gender-sensitive, woman-centred programs and a concomitant need for genderbased program evaluation approaches to examine
these programs.
Program evaluation is recognized as an important part of operating programs well. If evaluation and other processes do not reflect gender differentiation, they perpetuate old models that overlook gender needs and differences, and fail to support the empowerment of women. Yet a search of the
program evaluation literature reveals that little has been reported in the area of gender-specific, woman-centred evaluation models or processes.
A shift to gender-specific evaluation affects how evaluation structures and processes are conceptualized, utilized, managed, analyzed and reported. In turn, the way evaluation is employed effects how woman-centred services are developed and delivered, and how effective they will be.

Gender at Work
Gender at Work is a new knowledge and capacity building network focused on gender and institutional change. It was created in June 2001 by AWID (Association for Women's Rights in Development), WLP (Women's Learning Partnership), CIVICUS (World Alliance for Citizen Participation), and UNIFEM (United Nations Fund for Women). We work with development and human rights practitioners, researchers and policy makers. We aim to develop new theory and practice on how organizations can change gender-biased institutional rules (the distribution of power, privileges and rights), values (norms and attitudes), and practices. We also aim to change the political, accountability, cultural and knowledge systems of organizations to challenge social norms and gender inequity.

The main vision of the project is to use forthcoming integration with European Union to strengthen women's economic rights and gender equality. Asia Pacific online network of women in politics, governance and transformative leadership
onlinewomeninpolitics.org
Was borne out of the vision of Asian Women Leaders to explore creative ways in organizing a network of Asia Pacific women involved in politics, governance, decision-making and transformative leadership.
In this so-called Information Age, the Internet—through websites, electronic discussion lists, message boards and email—offers excellent opportunities to link women leaders and visionaries from all over the world without worrying about the cost, time and geographical barrier. Through the above mentioned Internet tools information-sharing, communication, networking and consensus-building amongst women leaders and organizations will be more efficient, faster and cheaper.
In 1999, the Asian women leaders who were gathered during the Global Conference on Women in Politics agreed on utilizing these tools to stay linked together for the advancement of their goals. This consensus led to the development of onlinewomeninpolitics.org, which is mainly a one-stop shop for online resources on Asia Pacific women in politics, governance, decision-making and transformative leadership.

Viure i Conviure.

Global Women's Project
the Global Women's Project uses the lenses of gender, race and class to analyze the effects of political, economic and social policies on women and to advocate for change. Questions pertaining to women, and economic security, poverty, violence, power, and human rights are central to this work. The Project's ethical perspective reflects a feminist evolution of Catholic Social Thought.
Currently, the Women's Project is focusing its social justice work in six general areas:
Women's Economic and Social Rights
Women and the Macro-Economy
Gender, Trade and Development
The International Gender and Trade Network
The Global Women's Movement
Women, Religion and Spirituality
The Women's Project works to ensure that issues of women from the global and economic South are integrated into all economic policy decisions. This project has identified these issue areas as key to fostering equity and development in macroeconomic policy. In this work, equity includes not only gender equity, but also equity among peoples and nations.

Hoagies' Gifted Education Page: Gender Issues
"Because with boys failure is attributed to external factors and success is attributed to ability, they keep their confidence, even with failure. With girls it's just the opposite. Because their success is attributed to good luck or hard work and failure to lack of ability, with every failure, girls' confidence is eroded. All this works in subtle ways to stop girls from wanting to be astronauts and brain surgeons. Girls can't say why they ditch their dreams, they just "mysteriously" lose interest."

Gender, the Millenium Development Goals, and Human Rights in the Context of the 2005 Review Process
Genevieve Renard Painter
Gender and Development Network UK
The year 2005 is a strategic window for women’s human rights advocacy because in this year the Beijing Platform for Action (BPFA) and the Millennium Declaration and Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) will be reviewed. This paper offers the GAD Network a way to think about the opportunities offered by these coinciding reviews and outlines an advocacy agenda for participation in the reviews at an international level.
This paper argues that achievement of the MDGs is both an indication of and a necessity for the realization of human rights, because the MDGs correspond to states’ existing human rights obligations found in the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR). Setting the MDGs back within a human rights framework provides analytical and practical tools towards challenging the prevailing neo-liberal, economic growth-driven model of development.

Gender and Development
Research from around the world has shown that gender inequality tends to slow economic growth and make the rise from poverty more difficult.
The reasons for this link are not hard to understand. Half of the world’s population is female, hence, the extent to which women and girls benefit from development policies and programs has a major impact on countries’ overall development success. Research also shows that women and girls tend to work harder than men, are more likely to invest their earnings in their children, are major producers as well as consumers, and shoulder critical, life-sustaining responsibilities without which men and boys could not survive much less enjoy high levels of productivity. Women’s empowerment is particularly important for determining a country’s demographic trends—trends that in turn affect its economic success and environmental sustainability
